Tiger Rock was founded in 2016 by husband-and-wife team Wai & Vikki Teh, born out of a shared passion for Southeast Asian food and culture.
Wai, of Chinese-Thai heritage, was born and raised in the vibrant culinary city of Ipoh, Malaysia. At 25, he moved to England and pursued a career as a chef. In 1994, he opened Siam Garden, Liverpool’s first popular Thai restaurant, near the iconic Penny Lane — a beloved local spot for many years.

Vikki was born in Thakhek, Laos. In 1979, after the Vietnam War, her family sought refuge in England. While she later worked in finance, her heart remained closely tied to the bold, comforting dishes of her childhood. As a young couple, Wai and Vikki frequently travelled back to Southeast Asia, exploring regional cuisines and deepening their appreciation for the diversity of flavours across the continent.
Together, they dreamed of bringing those flavours home to Liverpool — and that dream became Tiger Rock.
Tiger Rock – The Flavours of Southeast Asia
Tiger Rock was created to showcase the food we grew up with and discovered on our travels — dishes meant for sharing, just as they are back home. Our small plates menu celebrates the culinary diversity of Southeast Asia, with favourites including:
• From Hong Kong: Char Siu Fan, Beef Udon, Dumplings
• From Malaysia: Beef Rendang, Nasi Lemak
• From Vietnam: Summer Rolls, Grilled Meats & Fish
• From Thailand: Som Tam, Massaman Curry
At the heart of Tiger Rock is the spirit of communal dining — the Asian tradition of gathering, sharing plates, and enjoying meals with family and friends. It’s not just about food; it’s about connection.
We hope that every visit to Tiger Rock brings you a taste of Southeast Asia — and a little of our story, too.
