In today’s article, we are going to focus on four of the most popular national dishes from the Southeast Asian region.

Indonesian dish

We will begin by looking at Nasi Padang, an Indonesian delight. As the name suggests, it is a padang steamed rice which can act as a side offering to a wide variety of meals. It can also come in either a basic form for one or two customers, or it can come as part of a larger buffet, which is suitable for a group of people, perhaps at a party or for a birthday meal. The taste is exquisite, and it is a very popular Indonesian dish that is known the world over.

Singaporean dish

Speaking of being globally renowned, one of the more simplified yet acclaimed dishes, a food that is often requested, is Chicken Rice, which has its origins in Singapore dating back to the 1940s. It has since become adopted as one of the country’s leading national dishes, serving almost as the Singaporean equivalent of fish and chips in England. If you want to sample Singaporean culture in edible form, Chicken Rice is the perfect example of this.

Malaysian dish

Next, we have a dish that is not only very popular in its native country of Malaysia, but it is also one of the most requested meals here at Tiger Rock Liverpool, that being Nasi Lemak. This is a bit more intricate than our first two dishes, as it comprises of coconut rice with crispy anchovies, a boiled egg, roasted peanuts and sambal sauce, all of which is wrapped in a crunchy banana leaf. It leaves an excellent taste, and is the go-to if you want to enjoy a Malaysian delicacy.

Thailand dish

Last but not least, we have to give a mention to a dish which originated from Laos, which is Som Tam & Sticky Rice. The Som Tam itself has its origins in Thailand, and has been described as being the world’s best salad by The Guardian. But when you combine it with Sticky Rice, which as you might imagine intentionally provides a sticky feeling in your mouth, the result is a hot dish unlike any other, one that delivers a very unique taste and thus stands out amongst anything else, making it well worth trying sometime.

These are just four of the many great Southeast Asian dishes that you can sample, but they are right amongst the very best.
